Ordering Custom Shirts? 3 Tips For Choosing A Design

When you need to build camaraderie with a group and give people an easy way to remember an event, creating custom t-shirts is an excellent move. In addition to helping people to break down their barriers by asking everyone to dress the same, custom shirts are an excellent way to give people a token from an event like a wedding, important speech, or graduation. Here are three tips for choosing a custom shirt design, and why you won't regret the extra effort.

1.    Consider the Event Before you start combing through styles and looking for the perfect shirt, it is important to think about the event you are creating the clothing for. Whether you are thinking about making shirts for a friend's wedding or you and your extended family are gathering for a 50th anniversary party, it pays to incorporate the theme into the design. For instance, a graduation party might mean that your shirt design includes a graduation cap and a reference to the graduating party's alma mater. On the other hand, if you are celebrating a marriage, it might be fun to incorporate details about both parties on the back of the shirt, or use their branded couple's logo to memorialize their union.

2.    Simplify the Design After you have a rough draft for the type of design you want, try to simplify the look to make the shirt more wearable over the course of time. For instance, while it may be fun to create a "Jeff and Sara" shirt, a simple design with the date of their wedding might mean that people can wear their keepsake shirt more than just the evening of their event.   Focus on simplifying everything involving the shirt design, from the color to the logo. If you want to give the design a little more visual interest, focus on going through and adding symbols or details in the same color as the initial font.

3.    Avoid Font Fails A font fail is a font where some of the letters can easily mimic other letters, making whatever you are writing look like it could be a different word, like an offensive swear word. For instance, in some fonts, L's can look like U's, creating problems. After you create your custom shirt design, ask several people to read the shirt to see if they notice anything strange. Ask them to read the shirt aloud so you can tell if people are mistaking the text for anything different.
